Recruiters read from the candidate

Recruiters are damn experts now and every recruiter hardly spends 6–10 seconds or a maximum of 30 seconds to screen the resume as 1st look.

What happens before Recruiters connects with the candidate

  • Recruiters usually use tools like Greenhouse, iApplicants, SmartRecruiters, iCIMS, Lever, TalentRecruit, Zoho Recruit, iRecruit, Jobvite for Application Tracking.
  • From the time candidate has applied for the job till the end of the selection process/joining/post-joining, recruiters take note of every communication, feedbacks, improvements points, history.
  • Recruiters usually get so many applications for 1 single position and there are smart AI algorithms that play an important role to discard the profiles which do not match the job requirements. So, AI algorithms do their 50% job and save Recruiters time and then actual human comes in place to screen the resume.
  • Once the resume is screened & shortlisted by the recruiters then the candidate is almost 50% ahead of other candidates and that is where candidate engagement comes.

What recruiters want to hear from a candidate

  • You won’t believe it, recruiters will start noting down the points even before connecting with candidates. Ex. If a candidate could not join the meeting on time, does not apologize by joining late, start reading from the candidate reason for joining late and create the graph in mind which would help recruiters in further interview rounds.
  • From the time, candidate picked up the phone or connected with the recruiter over the online medium, recruiters will start judging the communication & listening skills.
  • Recruiters are very much interested in knowing the reason for a job change and if the candidate says unjustified reason then there would be further questions and those answers would be noted down properly.
  • Recruiters are also interested in understanding the job switches pattern and reason. Recruiters want to hear the justified reason for all the job changes and if any of those reasons create a dicey situation then there is a very HIGH chance that recruiters might not proceed with that particular candidature.
  • Recruiters would love to hear “why the candidate is interested to join XYZ company”. Recruiters would like to hear “what excites candidates about XYZ company”
  • Recruiters are interested to hear about your expectation from the company NOT in terms of salary BUT in terms of your career goal, aspiration and objective.
  • Recruiters are interested in candidates' persona, attitude, thinking ability and thought processes.
  • Recruiters would like to know whether candidates can adapt to new work culture, environment, technology, process, system, practices.
  • Recruiters are interested in knowing about “how curious & accountable the candidate is”

Conclusion

Recruiters are the face of the company and doors for the candidates who will be the future pillars of the company. Recruiters will try to read the candidate from every angle & generate some interesting analytics which would make it easy for the company to decide whether to hire the candidate or not.
